Busting Fashion Myths

The fashion market for plus sizes has really exploded in recent years. Manufacturers and designers alike have cottoned on to the fact that plus size dresses and other clothes are in great demand. Despite the wider range of choice, many plus size women still fall prey to the same silly errors. Following the ensuing tips will help you look great in plus size dresses no matter what your current weight. Let’s bust the myths together.

Dark Colors are Slimming

Art theory would seem to apply – dark colors recede and are used to make things look smaller. In fashion this really only holds true if you are wearing the perfect fabric. For black to look really good, you have to spend a bit more and buy quality fabrics. If you want to see why this is so, grab a pair of dark pantyhose. Look at your legs in the mirror after putting them on. The black makes your ankles look great, doesn’t it? Now, look further up. At the wider parts of the leg, the material stretches and the color is not as even. This happens because the fabric is stretched. The same happens with all clothes. When wearing black plus size fashion dresses, fit is extremely important. Color should never be excluded from your wardrobe; it can make a big difference to your look. Color can often hide a lot more than black can and won’t make people wonder what you have to hide.

Vertical Stripes slim you Down

Not so much – the problem with stripes, even vertical ones, is that they stretch out over the bulky bits and so accentuate them. The stripes don’t look as good if they are no longer parallel. Wider stripes hold their shape more easily.

Wear Solid Tone Fabrics

A lot of women think that plus size dresses should be completely devoid of patterns. This is not entirely false. You have to consider a print carefully before putting onto your body. Tiny patterns can look a little silly and out of proportion with your size. The exception is polka dots – these can look pretty good. Confidence can be shown in the print that you choose. People think that if you take the time to wear colors and prints, you are pretty confident.

The most important thing to remember is that clothes should not add bulk to your body – ignore plus size dresses that are covered in ruffles. They are much better left to on your home décor, not yourself.
In general though, you need to try on a lot of clothes in order to see what actually does and does not suit you. At the end of the day, none of the rules are as important as what the clothes look like on you.
