Work Basics

You work wardrobe should be tailored and professional, but it doesn’t have to be boring. You’ll have more leeway if you work in retail or a creative field, but even if you work in an office you can develop your own style with pops of color and patterns. Here’s what you’ll ne edfor plus size clothing work basics:
  • A great fitting blazer adds polish to your outfit. Choose one that is tailored to your figure. Avoid the urge to wear big bulky blazers. These only serve to make you look larger. A blazer should fall just where your legs begin and your hips stop. Purchase blazers in neutral colors and a few in bright colors and funky patterns to give your outfits a fresh and chic look.
  • The button up white blouse is a must have for any work wardrobe. You can wear it with a suit, tucked into a skirt or trousers and over a pair of neat slacks. Use textures and patterns to give your white blouses some variety. Just because it is for work doesn’t mean it has to look like you’ve raided your boyfriend or husband’s closet.
  • A-line skirts give you a slim and polished profile. Choose styles that come just above your knees for a current look. If you’re not comfortable with that length you can find a-line skirts that fall just below your knees or mid-calf. Avoid skirts that are too full, these just accentuate your hips and don’t give you the smooth polished look you need for work.
  • Well fitting slacks in several basic colors will extend your wardrobe and let you work in comfort. Make sure the rise is the correct length so you don’t have bunching in the front. Stay away from tucks or pleats if you have a larger tummy. A smooth front is better and will be more slimming.
  • Find a few pairs of comfortable flats in contrasting and basic colors. By switching out your shoes you can give outfits a different work. If you like heels, try to avoid very high stilettos for work. These don’t look professional, and are uncomfortable to work in all day.

The most important tip is to get plus size clothing that fits. Anything too small or too big will do nothing for your figure and be uncomfortable. Plus size clothing doesn’t have to be boring and your work wardrobe is no exception. Let you personal style show through and you’ll have a wardrobe full of options. To add some color and punch to your plus size clothing, use scarves and belts in contrasting or complimentary colors. Have fun with your clothing and you’ll look great and professional all day.
