Clothing Tips to Help Bigger Teenagers

It is hard being an adult who is plus sized but it is much harder to be a teen who is plus sized. Despite the fact that obesity in children is becoming more and more prevalent, children and teens who are larger are still subject to a lot of ridicule and their self-esteem usually suffers because of it. Instilling some plus size fashion rules into our kids will, in the long run, help them to look better and thus enable them to feel better about themselves. There is no doubt that the way we feel inside is affected by the way we look on the outside.

Fit must be Right

Teenagers are the masters of angst. They all have issues with their bodies and this can be seen in their dress code. The best plus size fashion advice that you can give a teen is to wear clothes that actually fit. Teach them to improve the definition of their waists with clothes. A great way to camoflage a bad spot and to add definition as well is to wear a single breasted blazer. Also teach them to not go to extremes with this advice – clothes should not emphasize fat by clinging to it. For the plus size teen, a plus size clothing fashion mantra is to never let your midriff be exposed. Flabby tummies sticking out of the bottom of a T-shirt do not look good on anyone.

What are the Plusses?

You need to help your adolescent to find an area of their body that they really like. In some cases this may be easier said than done but it is important to do. A really good plus size fashion tip to implement is to get them to place emphasis on the regions that are naturally narrower. Legs are often a good place to start – emphasis on a great pair of legs can detract from a larger abdomen.
Balance the Look
Your teen should always look balanced. What type of body shape do they have? Are they smaller on top than at the bottom, or vice versa? In either case you will have to create a balance on the smaller half of the body. Skinny tops should be paired with fuller bottoms, etc. There are plenty of plus size fashion tips for your teen to draw on in the quest for a sleeker look.

The Number 1 Rule in Plus Size Fashion

For anyone of any age to really be successful in carrying off a look, they have to be confident in themselves. Your teen must learn to project a confident air. Good posture is a great indicator of confidence and also serves to make the body look taller and slimmer. Confidence will, when all is said and done, be the most important factor of all.

Plus Sized Clothing Next To Great Men

When Julius Caesar met his last wife, Calpurnia, he was captivated by her lines and her sensuality. She was not, as one today would call, a skinny woman. But, coming from a very wealthy and renowned Roman family, she had her own curves. Albeit that she was only sixteen at the time. She and many others of her stature, in those days, were voluptuous and would require plus sized clothing.

If one of the most powerful men on earth and across time, was attracted to someone in plus sized clothing, who are we to insinuate that curvy women are not appealing to the man's eye. After all, that seems to be the prevailing story to distract women from being as naturally voluptuous. If one has been introduced to Raman frescos, for example frescos showing Bacchian rites and other art depicting women of the era, you will notice, to no ambiguity, that these women are indeed larger and more shapely.

The peculiar thing about all this is that back in the great ages of art and beauty, the prevailing shape that captivated men, and women, was that of a well curved woman in plus sized clothing. Anything less was relegated to peasants and maids. Is it that we have naturally evolved to appreciate less. Does the 19th century Robert Browning  phrase, “less is more,” apply.  Hardly. “Less is more” is not about the weight of material, it refers to the complexity of design. Les complexity is preferable to more complexity. So when talking about a woman's curves and plus sized clothing, its the opposite, one would venture. Simply because to be natural and true to the original design is to remain with curves and fit in plus sized clothing. To relentlessly shun food and all that is delectable then slave away at the gym and use vacuum gadgets to remove the punds, that is the complexity Browning may refer to in his phrase.

When there was a brief respite in the false pretense that men preferred the skinny look, the industry came crashing in with more media advertising that resulted in an upswing of the the women thinking that men truly like Audrey Hepburn-esque qualities. Audrey Hepburn is not pretty because she is thin, Audrey is pretty because she is classy.  If that were so, how would it be possible that the singer of the most famous “Happy Birthday Song” to President Kennedy was a size 12. And what about Anna Nicole Smith – no doubt there that she was proud in her plus size clothing.

The Advent Of Plus Size Clothing For Women

Gone are the days when a larger clothing size was akin to a social taboo. Women are no longer judged to be unfit to exude elegance just because they are heavier than what is considered to be normal. Once an unheeded section, plus size clothing for women has come forth from its last in the queue position to the centre stage.
The plus size clothing for women is one of the most profitable sectors in the clothing industry nowadays and the realisation of the huge potential of the market has finally induced most designers and brands to take a note of the oversized garment ranges. There is a huge demand for larger sized apparel, mostly owing to the fact that a larger percentage of women come under the plus size category now.
There are numerous boutiques available today where you can shop for plus size clothing for women. These need not be high end stores of top rated designers. You can also choose lots of small enterprises which have been started by individuals. One of the charms of these small places is that you will get suitable clothes without putting holes on your purse. The availability of larger clothes is of course not limited to exclusive speciality stores. Almost all large clothing stores stock them. Online shopping is another option for you to either shop for hard to get pieces of garments or to just skip through the various options available these days.
Plus size clothing for women, because of its newfound popularity has brought in a vast multitude of designs, styles, colours etc. in almost every oversized clothing section. Although the designers obviously keep in mind some general rules regarding the oversized clothing section, it must ultimately be your suitability that should be the base of your selecting a particular piece of garment. The cut, length and other features must be the ones which make your figure look flattering.
The correct fit is also crucial when it comes to plus size clothing for women. This is because of the fact that regardless of the runway style which you might be flaunting, an unfit dress will make the whole endeavour pointless.
The advent of the sector of plus size clothing for women has indeed proved to be a boon to women all over the world. After all, you can neither expect your body to stick to your birth weight all along your life nor can you embrace the starving to near death program just to fit into some unrealistically sized clothing.

Plus Sized Clothing For Women

In the search for plus sized clothing that will not only fit the body but will also make the person wearing it feel comfortable, self-confident and good looking, many designers and companies for manufacturing clothes have started solving the problems of the full figured.

The variety of plus sized clothing models and styles has been rapidly increasing, differing in cut, materials, colors, design, patterns and so on. Finally, being full figured doesn’t mean that you can only wear muumuus and loose pants anymore. Forget about it, since, if you are big, wearing loose and layered clothes will make you look even bigger.

When searching for your perfect plus sized clothing make sure to find a fabric that is really suitable to your body. This is probably of biggest importance. Don’t wear something that is made of fabric that clings and tightly hugs your body. You shouldn’t let the material be shaped by your body, because it will really not look so nice and sloppy. Never buy something silky that will show all of your body parts that you want to hide.

The colors and the patterns are maybe not the most important thing when it comes to plus sized clothing, but they sure are important. It’s a fact that if you choose the wrong pattern, you might mess up your complete outlook. It is important to avoid tiny patterns as much as you can, they will not look good on your body. The horizontal stripes are another thing that almost no designer puts on plus size clothing. You can wear something patterned with vertical stripes, but go with a bit wider ones. Too thin and tiny stripes will look as if your clothes are tightly hugging your body. Big, floral patterns are also a good choice.

For a completely satisfactory outlook, the outerwear is definitely important. When searching for your perfect jacket, the structured ones are the best choice to go with. They will make your body appear visually longer, and they can correct the damaged hourglass shape. When it comes to tops, choose V-cuts since they make your neck seem slimmer and this gives a longer and thinner appearance on your whole look.

As for the pants and jeans included in your plus sized clothing, choose wide leg or slightly flared jeans. They gently hug the widest parts of your legs and with their flare they give a slimming effect to your legs and the whole body.

History Of Plus Size Clothing

Clothing, in any form, be it plus size clothing or just animal skin, is most certainly a human distinction. Although one could argue that animals that grow feathers are indeed growing a form of clothing themselves. The answer to that could only be conclusively and objectively answered if the definition of the functions clothing needed to satisfy. As a basic requirement, clothing needs to protect us to a certain degree from the elements. Clothing has been traced back by archeologists using carbon dating methods to as far back as 5000 BC.

However, even though the evidence only traces back 7000 years, there is sufficient reason to believe that plus size clothing, or some variation of it was used almost 650,000 years ago. Even if it may be a bit of a stretch to date it that far back, other scientific methods using lice have determined that there is evidence to suggest that clothing dated back to 190,000 years ago. As we trace this history back, it occurs that plus size clothing does have multiple uses. First, all clothing, protects us from the elements as well as maintained a stable body temperature. Second, clothing, provides camouflage (during the hunter-gatherer) days. That slowly evolved into something that was a status symbol. Whether it was a simple loin cloth or something that acted as a simple way to cover up, the effects were that clothes were used to protect.

As civilisation carried on, we became involved with stature and as such, the clothes followed suite. Fast forward to today, clothes can be categorised into two segments, regular clothing and plus size clothing.  However, the preoccupation with all the externalities of clothes has detracted the original necessity of clothing. It is no longer about covering up and being protected from the environment. We have houses now with heating and ventilation. Cars that are temperature controlled and so on. So the argument that its primarily for protection from the elements is no longer valid. The next thing is that it was a status symbol.

As far as status symbols are concerned, it didn't really matter if it was plus size clothing or not. It was just for style. Form over function. The human body has evolved so far in the 650,000 years since the first protective covering that we now wear clothing because it feels uncomfortable not to do so. Wearing plus size clothing has become second nature.

A Greco-Roman's View Of Plus Size Clothing

In the modern world of contemporary art and space-age transportation and personal computers and technologies so complex, we are able to recreate miniature black-holes. Compared to that, it would seem that the human mind is just another frontier left to conquer. Like Caesar marching north through Gaul, scientist have marched north and attempted to conquer the deep recesses of the mind.

Scientists and psychologists have found ways to convince the unprotected mind of almost anything. From subliminal persuasion to using sex in messages, advertisers can sway public opinion, change fast impressions and alter the consumer's desires as effortlessly as turning on a light bulb. With this knowledge they moved plus size clothing out of the mainstream and replaced it.

Plussize clothing was the anchor that women of voluptuous curves hung on to to accentuate their beauty. But with the tide of opinion moving toward the Size 6s it was hard for a larger women to not be convinced she needed to go a size smaller. One thing holds true in apparel, the proper size of clothing, when well tailored makes the person look elegant. Even a pale, cadaverous frames look alive and well when dressed in eloquently designed clothes, so to, the same applies to plus size clothing.

However, with more an more people trying to down size their dress size, the plus size designers did not find the profit in producing countless styles and colors and so began the slippery slope journey to oblivion for plus size clothing. A  simple decision to target women's psyche because it was common knowledge that it was easier to part money from a women than from a man. Combine that with the fact that women, predominantly, are more sensitive to their appearance and what results is a combustible cocktail with the power to move the mind.

As the mind goes, so do the hands. People are easily manipulated into action once the mind has been convinced of something. In this case the world's mind was convinced that being skeletal was best. The day of the curvy goddess was in the rear view mirror and fading fast and plus size clothing with her. Anchises would be so disappointed with the turn of events since the the love of his life, Aphrodite was most certainly curvy. After all she was the Greek goddess of  love and beauty. If she adorned plus size clothing, who are we to differ?
