Plus Size Clothing Model Fluvia Lacerda Named Best Plus Commercial Print Model of the Year

At the 2011 Full Figure Fashion Week held in New York City, plus size clothing model Fluvia Lacerda was named Best Plus Commercial Print Model of the Year. The Brazilian born beauty now resides in New York City and is signed with the Bella Agency based in Australia. Full Figure Fashion Week celebrates the curvy woman and gives retailers, designers, models and the public a chance to shop, network and celebrate all that is lovely about plus size fashion. It is more than just a fashion show, but an event began by Gwen DeVoe to bring high fashion plus size clothing to women. Fluvia received her award at the third annual Full Figure Fashion Week at the award ceremony held at The Marriott Marquis Hotel New York City in Times Square on June 18th.

Fluvia says she is very proud of receiving this award. She is a beautiful and confident woman, and a size 18 plus size clothing model who works to break down the barriers of the fashion world. Fluvia began her career as a model after she was approached on a cross town bus and the rest is history. She says she is very passionate about her work and is a role model for Bralizian women since she is Brazil’s only internationally successful model. In her blog, I’m on my way…, she writes she is big and that the fashion industry can just “deal with it”. She also writes that even skinny leg jeans can look good on a plus size woman if they fit. Too many plus size clothing designers think curvy women want to hide their bodies and Fluvia says this is just not true.

On her blog she sites a recent headline in a recent issue of Lucky Magazine which stated that skinny jeans can be a drag for plus size women. She took issue with this headline and said it insults the intelligence of women everywhere who wear plus size clothing. She says she a big woman and like her, plus size women don’t want to wear baggy clothes designed to hide their curves. She feels curvy women should celebrate their curves and the fashion and media industry needs to realize this fact. Women don’t want plus size clothing that promises to make them look thinner, it is an insult to think this because no amount of baggy clothing and dark colors will make a size 20 look like a size 6. Instead they want plus size clothing which fits and looks good. It is this attitude that helped Fluvia to be named this years’ Best Plus Commercial Print Model of the Year.
